Hello Prospective Students!

My name is Lawrence Katlego Kati and I am originally from South Africa - North West Province- and live in a small town called Vryburg.

In 2004 my parents divorced and I moved to Johannesburg with my father. Two years later I was offered a 3 year scholarship by a Tiger Kloof High school and moved back to Vryburg. The following year I was selected to be part of a student cultural exchange program at Trinity School in Manhattan, New York. After spending a month in NY, I loved it so much I swore to myself that one day I would come back to America.  After graduating from Tiger Kloof, I accepted a one year scholarship from Maru-A-Pula school in Botswana to do my A-levels. The next year I received another scholarship from the Hotchkiss School, a New England private boarding school in Connecticut. While working on my college application, my advisor told me about F&M, so I signed up to be interviewed by an F&M representative. I was then nominated for the Collegiate Leadership Summit on campus and was able to spend three days with F&M students. After the first day on campus, I knew this is where I wanted to be, and here I am.

Though I’m a freshman, I plan to major in American Government and Economics. I also enjoy other academic disciplines such as: Creative Writing, History and Philosophy. I am absolutely crazy about football (a.k.a soccer in the US) and of course, photography. Club Soccer is definitely my favorite club, followed by Black Student Union (which is open to all students) and I.M.P.A.C.T.
