Phi Kappa Tau was founded in 1906 at Miami University of Ohio by a group of four friends in the spirit of brotherhood and shared scholarship. The fraternity consists nationally of over 140 chapters throughout the nation and continues to grow every year. The Franklin and Marshall chapter of Phi Kappa Tau was founded in 1921 and has embraced the brotherhood and shared scholarship that the founders envisioned.
While every brother shares a common identity as a Phi Kappa Tau member, each also maintains a life independent from the brotherhood. Outside the fraternity, members have been involved in organizations such as WFNM (the campus radio station), student senate, the College Dispatch, community service, and a variety of student leadership opportunities. The brothers also belong on sports teams ranging from basketball, soccer, tennis, and ice hockey. The brotherhood has also been involved in several community service projects such as Hospice and the Canned Food Drive. Individually, brothers have been involved in the Big Brothers Program, Habitat for Humanity, and the Lancaster Humane Society.
