It is the College's fundamental policy to provide equal opportunity in all areas of employment practice. This policy extends to recruitment and hiring, working conditions, pay and benefits, professional development opportunities, performance review, promotion, and all other terms and conditions of employment.

Prohibited practices include:

  • harassment or discrimination on the basis of gender/gender identity, sex, race or ethnicity, color, national origin, birthplace or ancestry, religion, age (40 and older), handicap or disability and use of a service animal, family or marital status, pregnancy or childbirth, or sexual orientation;
  • retaliation against a student or employee for filing a charge of discrimination, participating in an investigation, or opposing discriminatory practices;
  • academic or employment decisions based on stereotypes or assumptions about the abilities, traits, or performance of students, applicants, or employees of a certain gender, sex, race, age, religion, ethnic group, or individuals with disabilities;
  • denying employment opportunities to a qualified applicant or employee because of marriage to, or association with, an individual of a particular race, national origin, religion, or an individual with a disability. Title VII also prohibits discrimination because of participation in schools or places of worship associated with a particular racial, ethnic, or religious group;
  • using genetic information pertaining to an applicant or an employee, or a member of the applicant’s or employee’s family, to make employment decisions;
  • excluding a student or applicant, persecuting a student or otherwise denying or limiting his/her educational access, benefits, or opportunities based upon that student ’s or applicant’s membership in a protected category, as described above.

Reporting Procedure -- All students, applicants, and employees are free to exercise their rights under this policy. Franklin & Marshall College intends to abide by this policy. If any student, applicant, or employee feels his/her rights under the law have been violated or the College is not properly applying provisions of this policy, he/she should promptly notify :

The College’s Title IX Coordinator will be notified of all Title IX-related complaints.

The College condemns and will not tolerate any conduct calculated to intimidate, retaliate, harass or otherwise discriminate against any student, applicant, or employee because he or she has opposed any practice made unlawful under the Civil Rights Act, or has filed, charged, testified, assisted or participated in any manner in any Civil Rights Act investigation, proceeding, hearing, or lawsuit.

 

Title IX Notification

In accordance with Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, which prohibits a college or university from discrimination based on sex, Franklin & Marshall College does not discriminate on the basis of sex or gender in its educational programs and activities.
