Dear Parents of New Students:

We are pleased to welcome you to the Franklin & Marshall community!

Now that your son or daughter has decided to attend Franklin & Marshall, you face getting ready for his or her first semester of college. For the majority of you, your son's or daughter's first official activity as a Franklin & Marshall student involves participation in a program that we call Beginnings, which takes place this year on May 14, 16, and 18, 2012. Beginnings is a one day program designed to introduce first-year students to the unique academic experience at F&M. You are invited to attend as the day includes separate programs for parents including workshops and other opportunities for you to learn more about programs and opportunities at F&M.

Although we ask that you make every effort to attend on your assigned date, don't worry if your family has a schedule conflict or you live at a distance that precludes you from attending. Your son or daughter will have the opportunity to indicate your preferred date on the New Student Reply Form on the New Student Forms website. The username and password required to access this site will be emailed to your student in late April (from the email address ).  As soon as your son or daughter receives this message, please remind him or her that it is essential that he or she visit the New Student Programs website as soon as possible. The website contains forms that must be filled out in order to complete the enrollment process.

Your son or daughter must notify us through the New Student Reply Form that he or she will be unable to attend Beginnings. We will then instruct your son or daughter to complete the Course Registration Form and their registration status will be verified by the Office of College House Administration on campus. They will be contacted regarding academic advising. Please know that changing your Beginnings date or notifying us that you cannot attend does not require a phone call.

Navigating this website will provide your son or daughter with information and instruction on how to make their initial transition to the College successful. With the exception of the New Student Forms website (which you must ask your son or daughter to show you), as a parent you can also access the entire New Student Programs website. We have also included in this site a list of "Parents Frequently Asked Questions" and a link to the Parent Programs Office at F&M.

Your son or daughter will be expected to arrive on campus for the Fall Semester on Friday, August 24 between 8:00 am and 11:00 am. That day includes opportunities for your student to begin to settle in as well as a chance for you to get those last minute questions answered. Parents should plan to depart that day by 4:00 pm. You are also warmly invited to Family Weekend, October 19 - 21, 2012.
