Dear Parents of New Students:

We are pleased to welcome you to the Franklin & Marshall community!

Now that your son or daughter has decided to attend Franklin & Marshall, you face getting ready for his or her first semester of college. For the majority of you, your son's or daughter's first official activity as a Franklin & Marshall student involves participation in a program that we call Beginnings, which takes place this year on May 13, 15, and 17, 2013. Beginnings is a one-day program designed to introduce first-year students to the unique academic experience at F&M. You are invited to attend as well, as the day includes separate programs for parents, including workshops and other opportunities for you to learn more about programs and opportunities at F&M.

Your student will receive a pre-assigned date in his/her welcome email from F&M, sent April 27 (or within one week of deposit, for recently enrolled students).  While we prefer that your family attend on the assigned date, if you cannot, your student can select the date that best suits your family within the New Student Information Form (sent within the same welcome email message). Although we ask that you make every effort to attend, don't worry if your family has a schedule conflict or you live at a distance that precludes you from attending. Your son or daughter will have the opportunity to communicate with an  academic adviser via phone or email, and our student Orientation Planning Directors will conduct roommate matching interviews via phone, skype or email for students who were unable to attend Beginnings.

The Office of the Dean of the College has sent an email message to each new student's personal email address with instructions to access a very important academic form that also allows students to register for Beginnings.   Parents will also receive more information on Beginnings in the mail.  It is important that students complete the online form as soon as they can access it, and no later than May 6, 2013.

Very soon, F&M will send new students their net ID and password information, granting them access to their Franklin & Marshall email accounts and the “Inside F&M” student portal. Prior to receipt of that information, students should continue to check their personal email accounts for important updates.

Navigating this website will provide you and your son or daughter with information on how to make the initial transition to the College successful.  We have also included in this site a list of "Parents Frequently Asked Questions" and a link to the Parent Programs Office at F&M.

Best wishes for a pleasant spring. The faculty, administration, and staff at Franklin & Marshall look forward to meeting you and working with your son or daughter through the coming months and years.

Sincerely,

Steven P. O'Day, J.D.
