International Studies and foreign language study are like two halves of the same coin. In order for people to meet across cultures, we need also to meet through languages. At Franklin & Marshall we encourage International Studies and Area Studies minors to reach a high level of proficiency in a second or even a third language. Students in our program spend a semester or year abroad in a non-English-speaking country and extend their foreign language study with this immersion experience.
Franklin & Marshall offers courses in nine modern foreign languages and two classical languages (Latin and Greek), all of which open windows into other times and places and doors to new areas of experience and understanding.
