The Committee on Academic Technology (CAT) and Information Technology Services (ITS) are pleased to announce several enhancements to Blackboard @ F&M, the College's supported course management system. These enhancements, which will more closely mirror the way eDisk course folders are managed, will take effect on May 20, 2011. Enhancements include:

Automated course generation:
Blackboard courses will be created automatically (as courses folders are on eDisk) eliminating the need to request individual Blackboard courses. Blackboard courses will be set to unavailable, by default, allowing faculty members to choose whether and when to make each Blackboard course available to students.
Automated student enrollment:
Student enrollment in Blackboard courses will be maintained automatically (as courses folders are on eDisk) eliminating the need to manage enrollment manually. As students add and drop courses, they will automatically gain or lose access to the Blackboard courses as determined by official Registrar enrollment records. Faculty will continue to manually add individuals to the Blackboard courses they control including individuals who are not part of the F&M community - off-campus collaborators, individuals auditing a course, etc.
- F&M NetID Integration:
Students and faculty members will log into Blackboard using their F&M NetID and password (same as eMail, eDisk, etc.).
If you are not using Blackboard now and do not plan to in the near future, no action is required. For faculty members who are using Blackboard and plan to continue to do so, some minor changes to current operating procedures, as noted above, will occur.
