Hardware Standard

The incoming first year students (Class of 2016) were recommended by the Faculty Committee on Academic Technology to use an Apple Macintosh computer. Last year, 80% of Franklin & Marshall students brought a MacBook or MacBook Pro portable system to campus. The recommended system, a 13" MacBook Pro, has an Intel i5 processor, 4GB of RAM, 500GB storage, and a a DVD/CD-read/write drive. These systems also include ethernet, firewire and USB ports. Space is limited in the residence halls therefore we do not recommend tower units with large monitors.

The current employee desktop minimum standard consists of an Ethernet ready Macintosh with a G4 processor, 15" color display, 1GB of RAM, and a DVD/CD-read/write drive.
