Media Sandbox

Located in the eLearning Laboratory (eLL), Harris Center, Room 136, the Digital Media Sandbox is designed to provide Franklin & Marshall faculty with opportunities to see demonstrations of instructional technology applications, to ask questions of technology professionals, and to play with new "leading-edge" digital media technologies in an environment that promotes hands-on experimentation.

The Sandbox contains a variety of the following technologies:

  • digital still and video cameras
  • digital audio input devices
  • portable computing devices including mobile devices like the iPod Touch, e-Books, and other wireless devices
  • computer remote control devices
  • 'streaming' media technologies
  • video and audio conferencing technologies
  • digital storage and multi-mode delivery technologies

IET hosts informal faculty gatherings called "Technology Demonstrations" within the Media Studio's Digital "Sandbox.". These events are focused around broad instructional technology and encourage hands-on experimentation.

For more information about the eLL, please contact the Director of Instructional & Emerging Technologies.

NOTE: The hardware and software that constitute the Digital Media Sandbox are acquired from a variety of sources including, but not limited to, commercial vendors, College offices, academic departments, and associated College programs. This collection of new technology is fluid and changes periodically; is not available for use outside of the eLL. Consequently, this equipment is not included in the supported suite of software and programs at the College beyond the intended purpose of the Digital Media Sandbox.
