The John Newman Association (JNA) is the Catholic Campus Ministry at Franklin & Marshall College. From hosting weekly Mass on campus, to holding club discussion meetings and holiday parties, the JNA allows students to grow in their faith in both formal and social settings. Though this is a student-led group, the JNA is advised by our campus minister, Father Michael Messner, and our lay campus minister, Alicia Spelfogel, who holds open office hours twice a week.
All students-Catholics and non-Catholics alike-are welcome to attend! College is a time of personal and spiritual growth and the JNA seeks to provide opportunities for students at every level of faith. To learn more about the JNA or become involved with Catholic Campus Ministry, please contact us at or like us on Facebook.
Sundays at 9:00 p.m. during the academic year in Nevin Chapel (2nd floor, Old Main)
Campus Mass doesn't fit with your schedule? Come to Fr. Messner's parish, Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, instead. Located at the corner of Walnut and Nevin Streets, Sacred Heart is within an easy walking distance of campus and offers Mass on Saturdays at 5:00 p.m. and Sundays at 8:30 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m..
Masses are also held for Holy Days of Obligation both on campus and at Sacred Heart.
Fr. Messner offers confession every week on campus before Sunday Mass. Confession is also available at Sacred Heart on Saturdays from 4:00 - 4:45 p.m..
Come to our club meetings! JNA meets on Wednesday evenings in the Multi-faith Room (Ground floor of the Steinman College Center). Our meetings range from informal discussions about our faith - such as talking about different ways that we pray - to game nights and our annual Christmas tree decorating party. WE like to share fellowship over food too, so join us for our monthly Mass and Munchies, our anual pasta dinner, and our weekly meatless Lenten dinners!
Need someone to talk to who shares your faith and values and undrstands the challenges that Catholic students face on the modern college campus? Contact our lay campus minister, Alicia at or drop in durin gher office hours. And, of course, feel free to email any of our executive board members.
Share your gifts at Mass with our Music Ministry or by being a lector or Eucharistic minister. Run for a position on our exec board, or give us suggestions or feedback.
College is 4 years. Your Catholic faith is 4 ever.
