Professional Biography

Dr. Nieves holds a Bachelor’s from Messiah College in English and Spanish (1987), a Master’s from the University of Delaware in Foreign Language and Literature with a major in Spanish (1991) and a Ph.D. from Temple University in Spanish (1999).  Her dissertation focused on the Arabic literary influences in the Libro del Caballero Zifar.  Not only is she interested in Spanish literature but also on Hispanics in the United States and Puerto Rican culture.  Most recently she co-authored a book chapter on the use of both Spanish and English in the Hispanic churches of Lancaster City.

“When I was a senior at Messiah College, my brother, who was a freshman at the time, would visit me to correct his papers and eat my cookies.  Before long he brought his friends with their papers as well.  Little did I know that this would be the start of my career in analyzing academic papers for others.  Then and now, I enjoy relating to students and encouraging others to communicate their ideas clearly and effectively.”
