The Ware Institute for Civic Engagement will kick off the 2009 United Way campaign Oct. 12.
Faculty, staff and administrators will receive information packets about the annual campaign in campus mail. Anyone wishing to donate to the campaign may make a gift to United Way of Lancaster County or a specific agency by signing up for payroll deduction and spreading payments over a 12-month period. Donors may also make a one-time gift using the form in the packet. The campaign runs through Nov. 13.
"A gift to United Way benefits Lancaster County nonprofit organizations who help your neighbors in need," says Sandi Smoker, department coordinator of the Ware Institute. "A gift of as little as $10 could provide three meals for someone in a homeless shelter, purchase school supplies for children or provide several pairs of warm socks for a senior citizen."
Donors who contribute at least $4 per week ($208 total) will be included in a drawing to win $10,000 in home improvements from Lowe's, a Harley Davidson Sportster and a four-day Caribbean cruise for two. Contributors of $1.50 per week ($78 total) are eligible to win a $2,500 Visa gift card. Also, all new donors to the campaign are eligible to win an additional $2,500 Visa gift card.
United Way of Lancaster County is a nonprofit organization focusing on the most critical health and human service needs in the county. It partners with businesses, individuals, government and other nonprofits to develop, fund and identify a range of solutions to the county's most urgent needs.
