Members of the Franklin & Marshall faculty and professional staff have a chance to show their school spirit by participating in “Spring into Fitness,” a six-week wellness competition against employees from Bucknell University and Dickinson, Gettysburg, and York colleges. The competition begins on Monday, March 5, and continues through Sunday, April 15.

Online registration for Spring into Fitness began on Feb. 13 and ends on Feb. 24. F&M will compete to win two traveling trophies: one for the institution with the highest percentage of employees completing all six weeks of the challenge, and one for the institution with the highest average of exercise minutes per participant. Competitors exercise in 15-minute segments and log minutes weekly.

“This initiative builds on the sense that we're a team, whether it's competing in a wellness challenge or serving our students, their families and our community,” said Cindi Dinger, department coordinator in mathematics and computer science, who is a member of F&M’s Wellness Committee. “Collaboration with one another is a definite strength F&M employees have, and I know if everyone pulls together across our academic and administrative departments, we can win this first-ever, intercollegiate competition.”

Each college's aim, Dinger said, is to spark interest among its own employees who may not have tried a college-sponsored wellness activity to enhance their overall fitness and well-being.

F&M’s Wellness Committee will individualize the challenge for the campus community in several ways. The committee will hold weekly drawings for $25 gift cards from the pool of F&M participants, and two end-of-competition drawings for $75 gift cards from those who complete the six-week challenge. Participants enrolled in F&M’s Lifestyle Returns program will earn 25 points toward their cash reward after completing the challenge.

All members of the faculty and professional staff may participate in the challenge. Regular full-time and regular part-time employees will be counted in the statistics for the overall, multi-college challenge.

“No matter what your fitness level is and no matter what type of fitness activity you like to do, you can participate and contribute to the F&M team,” Dinger said. “The more you exercise, the more you benefit and the more the F&M team benefits. It’s that simple. ”
