The Human Resources Department has announced some enhancements to the College’s Paid Sick-Leave Policy effective immediately for full-time professional staff.
The changes, aimed at allowing staff to better balance home life and work, will allow more flexibility in how paid sick leave is used.
First, full-time members of the professional staff may use up to 10 of their 12 annual paid sick days per fiscal year to:
‚?¢ care for an ill family member;
‚?¢ transition his or her parent, in-law or other eligible family member to an assisted-living facility; or
‚?¢ attend health care appointments with his or her children.
The second change involves paid maternity and paternity leave for professional staff. Before this, only a new mother was able to use paid sick days following the birth, typically for up to six weeks, and there was no paternity leave or leave for the adoption of a child. That has changed.
Under the new policy, a full-time professional staff member who has become a new mother or father, either through birth or adoption, and who has at least a year of full-time College service may request to use the lesser of 20 earned, paid sick days – four work weeks— from his or her extended sick-leave bank, or the total number of days available in his or her extended sick-leave bank.
