Members of Franklin & Marshall's Class of 2016 celebrated the beginning of their academic careers at Convocation Aug. 28 in the Alumni Sports & Fitness Center, learning about the example of leadership set by Maj. Richard Winters '41 and helping the College kick off a yearlong celebration of its 225th anniversary.
Hundreds of F&M faculty and professional staff members joined President Daniel R. Porterfield in welcoming the 602 first-year students, who hail from 31 countries and 29 states. The Class of 2016—the most diverse in the College's history—received a wide-ranging introduction to the academic life and history of F&M from Porterfield, Associate Professor of German Curt Bentzel and student speakers Akbar Hossain '13 and Melissa Sandoval '13.
In a video capturing some of the highlights from Convocation, first-year students reflect on the ceremony that formally introduced them to the academic community of Franklin & Marshall.
