The latest Franklin & Marshall College Poll, conducted in Pennsylvania’s 11th Congressional District, shows long-term incumbent Democrat Paul Kanjorski trailing Republican challenger Lou Barletta by nine points, 44 percent to 35 percent.

Kanjorski, who has represented the district that includes Scranton, Hazleton and Wilkes-Barre since 1985, has weak support among registered Democrats. According to the poll, only half of Democrats plan to vote for him.

In the presidential race, Sen. Barack Obama leads Sen. John McCain narrowly in the district, 43 percent to 40 percent, with 14 percent undecided. The economy is by far the primary issue driving voter preference.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.2 percent.

Complete results of the poll can be found here. The Franklin & Marshall College Poll is a program of the Center for Politics and Public Affairs.
