A new national Franklin & Marshall College Poll, produced in partnership with Hearst-Argyle Television, finds that Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain leads his Democratic rival, Sen. Barack Obama, by two percentage points, 45 percent to 43 percent, among registered voters. Ten percent of voters are still undecided a little more than a month from election day.

The poll, conducted by the Center for Politics and Public Affairs at Franklin & Marshall College between Sept. 15 and 21, finds McCain has an advantage among men, those over 55, whites, veterans, southerners and those who identify themselves as Christian fundamentalists. Obama leads among women, those between the ages of 18 and 34, Catholics, those living in the Northeast and African Americans.

Seventy-three percent said the country was on the wrong track, and 38 percent said they are worse off this year than last. The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 2.7 percent.
