Kenji Hirakouji, Ph.D., Chair of the Board of Tohoku Gakuin University (TGU), and his wife, Noriko Hirakouji, visited Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday, Jan. 17, to thank the College for its support following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan last year. Also visiting were Mark A. Hoy, his wife, Barbara Hoy, and his father, Richard Hoy. The Hoys recently endowed a $100,000 scholarship for students in financial need participating in F&M’s TGU program. The Hoys are descendants of William Edwin Hoy, F&M Class of 1882, who founded TGU. The group met President Daniel R. Porterfield, Ph.D., and Chair of the Board of Trustees Lawrence I. Bonchek, M.D., P’91. On the steps of Old Main are, front row, from left: Barbara Hoy, President Porterfield, Kenji Hirakouji and Noriko Hirakouji. Back row: Bonchek, Mark A. Hoy and Richard Hoy.
