United Way Asks College Community to Give

“One person can make a difference and every person should try.” -John F. Kennedy

The annual Franklin & Marshall College United Way Campaign will begin Oct. 27.

All employees will receive a donation packet via inter-campus mail. Last year, College faculty and staff donated $27,679 for local groups supported by the United Way. That represents a 16 percent increase in donations over the previous year. However, that number also represents only 14 percent participation. This year’s goal is to raise participation to 25 percent.

“We understand the tough economic times in which we live, but the United Way’s work does not stop during these times. In fact, it becomes even more vital,” said Helen Bowman, vice president of finance and treasurer of the College and United Way supporter.

For more than 80 years the United Way of Lancaster has raised funds to provide critical health and human services to children and adults in our community. Through its member agencies, such as Big Brothers Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Club, the Literary Council, the Spanish American Civic Association and the YWCA of Lancaster, the United Way provides vital services and helps build a safer, stronger, healthier community.
