Franklin & Marshall College held a kickoff event for its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) project on Thursday, Jan. 19, in Stahr Auditorium. The event included the announcement of two winners in the “Name the Project Contest”: Harry Haddon, coordinator of applications development and evaluation, and Cathy Kauffman, operations coordinator in the Registrar’s Office.

The winning name is Project BOOST (Building On Opportunities for Streamlined Technology). There were 136 contest entries.

ERP is the term for a system that manages the internal and external resources of an organization using a single software system and a single database. In institutions of higher education, standard ERP applications include student and academic information, financial aid, human resources, financial management, admission and institutional advancement.

Approximately 10 percent of the professional staff will be directly involved in implementing Project BOOST. The majority of the work will be completed by the end of the 2013-14 academic year. The key objectives for the project include replacing and enhancing the current system; enhancing strategic decision making, reporting and forecasting; streamlining access to information; reducing paper and redundant data entry; and preserving the security and integrity of data.

The College has selected SunGuard HE as its ERP vendor and Strata Information Group as its consulting ERP implementation partner.
