Summer

Summer can be an ideal time to explore a new area of interest, carry out an independent research project, or undertake an internship.  Here, you will find funding sources to support such activities.

College-Wide Summer Travel Awards

These awards are available to any Franklin & Marshall student who meets the eligibility requirements for the award.  The deadline for Summer 2013 applications is November 26, 2012.  All materials must be submitted to the Office of International Programs by that day.

Departmental Awards

Academic departments award grants for study, research, and internships in the major or minor area.  Consult faculty in each department for more information and application guidelines and deadlines.  Some other departments not included here may also have information on summer opportunities.

Davis Projects for Peace

As a member of the Davis United World College Scholars Program, Franklin & Marshall College can submit candidates to the Davis Projects for Peace initiative.  Awards in the amount of $10,000 are given each summer for projects "that will bring new thinking to the prospects of peace in the world."  The deadline for application is November 26, 2012.

Critical Language Scholarships

The U.S. Department of State offers funding for the study of critical languages during the summer.

F&M Ware Travel Fund for Faculty-Led Summer Programs

This fund can support students interested in study abroad summer courses led by Franklin & Marshall faculty. These funds are intended to support students who would not otherwise be able to participate in the experience because of costs and financial limitations.
