Writers House Projects

Student-Driven Projects

In 2007,  Danielle DiGiacomo Ganek '85 came to the Writers House to read from her debut novel, Lulu Meets God and Doubts Him. Shortly after her visit, Ganek endowed the Writers House in support of student-driven projects. The Danielle DiGiacomo Ganek '85 Student Initiatives Fund is available  to all Franklin & Marshall students who want to implement a reading- or writing-related project through the Writers House.

 

Children's Read-A-Thon

Each semester student volunteers from the Writers House don colorful hats, rabbit ears, ballerina skirts and other costumes to read children's classics, like the Cat in the Hat and Angelina Ballerina, to the littlest Fummers at the College Hill Children's Center. The Writers House makes a donation on behalf of the student readers.

Costumes, books, and satisfaction provided.

Do you have a reading- or writing-related project that money will help you get off the ground? Send your proposals for Student Initiative Funds to .
 
In your proposal, please include the following:
  • Your name and class year
  • A brief description of your proposed project
  • Your explanation for why this project would be a good thing for the Writers House to support
  • The audience or audiences at F&M or in the local community whom you think would welcome this project
  • Any possible co-sponsors
  • A preliminary budget for your project

* Please note that Ellen Brown, Kerry Sherin Wright, and the Student Initiatives Committee help student initiators with the logistics of their projects.
 
Submit your proposals now. We have a rolling deadline, so we take proposals all year long, although the sooner you make a request, the more money we'll have to give you.
