The physics and astronomy department awards scholarships sponsored by the Clare Boothe Luce Program. This program supports four Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Scholars. The grant is part of the Clare Boothe Luce (CBL) Program and supports four Clare Boothe Luce Undergraduate Scholars for two years each. Each grant provides full-tuition scholarships to women in their junior and senior years who are majors in astronomy, astrophysics, or physics. Each scholar will also receive a stipend of $2,000 to be used for research. The Clare Boothe Luce Program stands alone as the single most significant source of private support for women in science, engineering and mathematics. Clare Boothe Luce, the widow of Henry R. Luce, was a playwright, journalist, U.S. Ambassador to Italy and the first woman elected to Congress from Connecticut.
