For Current & Prospective Students
Student Research Opportunities
All physics and astrophysics majors have the opportunity to perform meaningful and potentially publishable research, working closely with our faculty. Most majors choose to do research at some point in their time at F&M.
Departmental opportunities to do research include:
- Independent Study projects for credit during the academic year and over the summer
- The Hackman Scholars Program provides paid research positions over the summer
- Faculty Grant Funded Research Positions for students
- Study Abroad Programs where students can spend a summer, semester or year abroad.
- The National Science Foundation offers many Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) opportunities at many schools across the country. These are paid positions (some include a housing and food allowance) during a 10-week period over the summer.
