About

The John Marshall Pre-Law Honor Society (JMPLHS) was founded in 2006 as a student-run Honor Society for sophomores, juniors, and seniors at Franklin & Marshall College who have demonstrated outstanding academic and extracurricular achievement in conjunction with a sincere passion for the law and legal studies. JMPLHS operates under the advisement of Steven P. O'Day, J.D., Senior Associate Dean of the College.

Mission Statement

"It will be the goal of the society to serve as an exclusive, student-based organization intent on fostering the personal growth and development of well-rounded individuals who posses a genuine interest in legal education and a sincere commitment to the noble profession of Law. The Honor Society will strive to support and educate its members by participating in law-oriented functions, hosting esteemed guests to speak on legal and related topics, and assisting those interested in pursuing the study of Law.”

More information can be found in the JMPLHS By-Laws.

How to Apply

Students may apply for membership in JMPLHS toward the end of their first year at Franklin & Marshall College. Applications and all corresponding materials (information about which is supplied to students by Dean O'Day at the end of each spring semester) are reviewed by the JMPLHS Executive Board in the early fall and those selected for membership are formally inducted into the Society at a ceremony held later in the semester. Feel free to contact Dean O'Day or any member of the Executive Board with any questions.
