Application to Participate at Commencement

Instructions for Application to Participate at Commencement Prior to Completion of Graduation Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS
Seniors who will not complete all of their graduation requirements by the end of the Spring semester may prefer to wait and participate in a future commencement when they can both process and receive their diplomas.

However, seniors who are close to completion by the end of the Spring semester may apply to participate in the ceremony without receiving a diploma if they:

  1. Have a 2.00 or higher cumulative grade point average, a 2.00 or higher major grade point average and the approval of their major department;
  2. Are in overall good standing at the College;
  3. Are able to complete all graduation requirements by satisfactorily completing no more than two (2) additional course credits;
  4. Submit a workable plan to complete all graduation requirements as soon as possible and no later than the August 31 following Commencement;
  5. Will not participate in extra-curricular activities, including intercollegiate sports, subsequent to the Commencement ceremony in which they participate.

PROCEDURE

  1. Stop by the Registrar's Office for the application packet, available in the spring.
  2. Make an appointment with the chairperson of your major department and ask that the "Major Department Chairperson's Form" be completed.
  3. Complete the "Student's Form."
  4. Make an appointment to meet with Ms. Sarah Esh, Assistant Registrar, before the deadline.  Bring the completed application packet to that appointment.

NOTE

Students who finish their degree requirements in the summer or fall will receive their F&M degrees on the Commencement date following the date when their degree requirements are completed.  For example, a student who completes all degree requirements in the summer of 2014 will receive his/her F&M degree in May 2015.
