About Our House
Schnader House was dedicated as Schnader Hall in October 1959. It was named for William A. Schnader, LL.D., (1886-1968) member of the Class of 1908. He earned a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He served as chairman of the Board of Trustees at Franklin & Marshall and he became Attorney General of Pennsylvania in 1930. He ran an unsuccessful campaign for Governor of Pennsylvania. In 1935, he founded the law firm of Schnader & Lewis in Philadelphia. The American Bard Association awarded him the Gold Medal in 1960 and he also served as President of the Pennsylvania Bar Association from 1962 to 1963.
House Crest and Symbolism
Our house crest is a party per cross, meaning it is a shield divided quarterly. The main image is of an African Gray Parrot resting on a blooming branch.

Our primary House colors are red, black and silver which represent some of the core values that we strive to instill in the members of our house community: to be courageous (red), to act sincerely (silver) and to be resilient and consistent (black).

An African gray parrot, Dolly is a member of a species considered to be among one of the most intelligent in the world.
