Laurie T. Baulig, J.D.

Laurie T. Baulig, J.D., serves as the Director of Legal Professions Advising at Franklin & Marshall College, where she also teaches as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Departments of Business, Organizations & Society and Women’s & Gender Studies.  Ms. Baulig began teaching at F&M in 2008 and served as Director of the Center for Liberal Arts & Society from 2009–2012.  Prior to joining F&M, Ms. Baulig spent over twenty years as an attorney in Washington, D.C., counseling clients on complex legal and public policy matters.

From 2004-2008, Ms. Baulig served as general counsel of the Rubber Manufacturers Association, the leading national trade association for the tire and rubber products industries.  Prior to RMA, she was in private practice, where she advised corporate and individual clients on a broad range of employment matters. Ms. Baulig has also represented business groups in regulatory proceedings conducted by the U.S. Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of Labor, and other administrative agencies. 

Ms. Baulig spent a major part of her career in a number of senior positions at the American Trucking Associations (“ATA”), one of the largest non-profit trade associations in the nation’s capital. During her 12-year career at ATA, she served as senior vice president for policy and regulatory affairs, vice president for labor and human resources policy, and associate chief counsel of the ATA Litigation Center, ATA’s in-house law firm. She also served as co-chair of the National Coalition on Ergonomics, a Washington D.C.-based business coalition concerned with federal and state efforts to regulate ergonomics in the workplace.  On April 27, 2000, Ms. Baulig testified as an expert on ergonomics before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Employment, Safety and Training. 

Prior to joining ATA, Ms. Baulig practiced antitrust law, with a particular emphasis on mergers and acquisitions.   She served as an associate attorney in the antitrust practice group of the Washington law firm Crowell & Moring, and as an antitrust litigator for the Federal Trade Commission.

Ms. Baulig holds an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Florida (1980, Phi Beta Kappa) and is an honors graduate of the University of Florida College of Law (1984). She is a member of the Pennsylvania Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the Florida Bar, the Bar of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, and the Bar of the United States Supreme Court.
