The Role of Alcohol in Sexual Assault

Sexual Assault is never the victim's fault.  Being intoxicated is not an invitation to be assaulted.
  • Alcohol is the number one date rape drug.
  • Alcohol use is the central factor in most college rapes.
  • Alcohol use INCREASES the likelihood of sexual assault occurring among acquaintances during social interactions.
  • An intoxicated person may be legally incapacitated which means that they cannot legally give consent to sexual activity. If an incapacitated person gives consent, it is not considered, under the law, as a valid consent. Anyone engaging in sexual activities with a person incapacitated by alcohol is committing sexual assault.
