In April of 2007, President John Fry signed the American College and University Presidents Climate Commitment. In doing so, the President became a Charter Signatory to this historic commitment.

The Presidents Climate Commitment is a broad, long-term commitment by colleges and universities to address climate change.  Specifically, signatories commit to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to a point of zero net emissions, or climate neutrality, to develop community partnerships in the area of sustainability, and to integrate climate neutrality and sustainability into the educational experience.  In making this Commitment, President Fry has placed the College at the forefront of sustainability in higher education.

In a message to the F&M Community, John Fry writes:

"At the heart of the Commitment is the notion that Franklin & Marshall College is in a special position to demonstrate leadership in the minimization of greenhouse gas emissions and to educate our students and the broader community about strategies to minimize the human impact on Earth's climate."

The Campus Sustainability Committee strongly supports the President's action, and is excited to see the College taking this important step towards making Franklin and Marshall College a sustainable institution.
