Ware Institute Interns focus on assisting individual students or student groups/organizations to make a difference in the Lancaster community. They do this by making connections between the needs of our community partners and the strengths and skills of our volunteers.

Community Outreach Intern:

The Community Outreach Intern serves as the primary liaison between the Ware Institute and our community partners for the purpose of placing volunteers.  The Community Outreach Intern and the Campus Outreach Intern work closely to match the interests of individual students or student groups/organizations with opportunities to make an impact in the Lancaster community. The Marketing & Social Media Intern will devote her time and attention to spreading the news about the work of The Ware Institute and the impact of programs on communities and student participants. The Marketing/Social Media Intern works very closely with the Campus Outreach Intern, the Community Outreach Intern and Ware Institute staff members to ensure that he/she has their finger on the pulse of all civic engagement activities/initiatives on and off campus. The Campus Outreach Intern serves as the primary liaison between the Ware Institute and our campus organizations to find out what philanthropy and civic engagement our students are involved in. The Campus Outreach Intern and the Community Outreach Intern work closely to match the interests of individual students or student groups/organizations with opportunities to make an impact in the Lancaster community. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Site Coordinator:
Elana Machlis '15

VITA stands for Volunteer Income Tax Assistance and our site is run through a partnership with the United Way of Lancaster County. This incredible volunteer experience allows students to earn their basic certification in tax preparation from the IRS and put it to use by filing tax returns for low-income residents of Lancaster. 

There are two types of volunteer needs at F&M's VITA site - students who receive IRS training to become certified tax preparers and untrained volunteers to serve as greeters, translators and assistants with site set up and tear down.
