The Ware Institute for Civic Engagement, International Studies, the Spanish and Government Departments and Social Entrepreneur Corps**(SEC) invites students to apply for this exceptional community-based learning internship for credit opportunity. Students spend two weeks of classes and training at Franklin & Marshall and eight weeks as development consultants in the field working alongside trained Social Entrepreneur Corps staff. Students are placed in four different locations in Ecuador: Loja (La Sierra region), San Juan Bosco (Amazon region), Palymar (Coastal region), and Cuenca (La Sierra region). Students gain insights into the opportunities, inherent risks, and limitations involved in developing regions.
Students have ample opportunity to significantly increase language proficiency, observe, learn, and live in a diversity of cultural settings. They experience home-stay living with local families and have the opportunity to visit an array of development and relief organizations. Students are given the opportunity to make a significant contribution in a highly structured manner, working side by side with field-based social entrepreneurs.
Reciprocity is one of the key elements in a successful community-based learning oppor-tunity; how would our students contribute to the community that they are working in?
Students contribute incremental human resource support in the field, contribute new ideas and fresh perspectives, as well as consulting support in the following areas:
needs analysis
feasibility analysis and pilot implementation
organizational & entrepreneurial support and training
