Ware Institute Interns working in the volunteer categories listed below are dedicated to community service. Interns are responsible for coordinating volunteer opportunities with community partners to ensure an active and encouraging volunteer experience for F&M students. Student volunteers can choose how much time they want to volunteer.  Ware Interns can also assist student groups such as fraternities or sororities, who have service as part of their mandate, to partner with community organizations that need volunteers.

The Ware Institute can assist you to make your volunteer effort a successful, rewarding experience.

Human Rights

Volunteers can assist local refugees with the resettlement process, work in an after-school program with refugee students, help provide ESL and citizenship tutoring for adults or become involved with The Human Rights Initiative (THRI) student group. Social Justice

Students can volunteer at local retirement communities and nursing homes, assist staff at local food and clothing banks or help the most vulnerable members of our community - children and adults at shelters and temporary housing facilities. Public Health

Educational Outreach

Volunteers can provide assistance in elementary, middle and high school classrooms, help elementary students improve their reading skills, tutor high school students in math or work with with kids in after-school programs. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)

There are two types of volunteer needs at F&M's VITA site - students who receive IRS training to become certified tax preparers and untrained volunteers to serve as greeters, translators and assistants with site set up and tear down.
