Maddie Jolles '10 and Alysse Vaccaro '11 went to camp this summer--feminist summer camp, that is. Feminist Summer Camp is run by third-wave feminist authors and activists, Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner of Soapbox Inc. It was a week-long, feminist-intensive trip to New York City where they met with a variety of different feminist organizations. Each day had a specific theme: Monday was focused on Sex Work; Tuesday was centered around Reproductive Justice; Wednesday was all about different feminist career paths from academia to the media; Thursday was dedicated to feminist art and activism; and Friday was dedicated to camper internships all around the City. They didn't roast any marshmallows or sit around the camp fire, but through feminist summer camp, Maddie and Alysse made life-long friendships with feminists from around the country.
