Welcome to the first Women's and Gender Studies E-Newsletter!
As the leaves turn color and we celebrate Thanksgiving, WGS is thankful for many developments on campus. We have a new full-time director of the Alice Drum Women's Center--Professor Beth Graybill. Read more about her below. We welcomed F&M alumna and Middlebury College professor Laurie Essig ('87) back to campus for a wonderful Common Hour on American Plastic: Boob Jobs, Credit Cards, and Our Quest for Perfection. WGS co-sponsored another Common Hour on November 17th: Stony Brook University sociologist Michael Kimmel's talk Guyland: The Perilous World Where Boys Become Men.
Brenda Segal ('12), a joint major in WGS and Psychology, completed a Hackman summer research project with Professor Jeff Podoshen about gender and consumer culture. She is featured in a recent issue of The Diplomat. Congratulations, Brenda!
WGS is pleased to be involved with the new Council for Women of Franklin and Marshall College, an alumnae group working to connect past and present students to further the education of women. F&M's WGS program continues to attract excellent students who work hard in the classroom, volunteer in the community, and plan enriching events on campus. Thanks students, colleagues and alumni.
WGS alumni, get back in touch with us. What have you been up to?
Best,
