Fall 2010 Mini-Issue

Welcome from Director Daniel Frick

  • Dan Frick

At the very end of the 2009-2010 academic year, we introduced Active Voice, the Writing Center's newsletter.

Because not everyone had time to check it out last May—and because there are so many people new to campus—we're re-issuing the inaugural edition, along with several brand new stories.

In this mini-issue,

  • read about the rigors of "Writing Center Boot Camp," the five-day training session all tutors undergo before the start of the school year
  • find details about the Center's college-wide writing contest, the Whitesell Prize for Expository Writing in General Education
  • learn how faculty can schedule a Writing Center in-class workshop for students
  • learn how to make an appointment using our online scheduling system

You will also be able to read all the stories from the first issue: a remembrance of Writing Center secretary Ann Campell, an update on tutor emeritus Justin B. Hopkins, a report on the 2010 Whitesell Prize winners, writing advice from "Doc Writing," and a short history of the Writing Center's home, Diagnothian Hall.

Look for the next full issue sometime later this fall!
