Last year we released our first issue of "Active Voice" right after Hurricane Irene. This year we celebrate suriving Sandy. This trend doesn't bode well for Fall 2013...

Seriously, though, our sympathies and best wishes go out to all those who suffer from the storm, and our thanks to all who sacrifice and share to keep us safe.

We realize we're a little late getting going this semester, newsletter-wise, but we've been a bit busy. Actually, we've been extremely busy. Busier than ever before, and yes, we know we keep saying that, but this time it's even truer than usual.

For the first month of classes, we sustained a usage rate of over 100%, breaking several records for the number of weekly appointments. Even after the tutors generously offered another 11 hours to supplement our schedule, the extra appointments filled almost instantly.

We are delighted to be so active, and we feel it's important to keep our "Voice" heard, so here goes.

In this issue

  • Go for a little literary Trick or Treat with Nate Gill '12 and Maggie Phenicie '13 as they celebrate the holiday in Halloween Prose and Costumed Writing
  • Get to know the additions to the staff from interviews conducted by Matt Girolami '13 and Amy Blakemore '13 in New Tutor Bios
  • Discover the difference between potential policies regarding Writing Center visits as Lindsay Hartman '13 reflects on Required vs. Rewarded?

Happy Halloween, all!
