First-Year Writing
Criteria and Submission Requirements
Criteria:
- Must be a First-Year student enrolled in a First-Year Seminar, ENG 105, or "W" course
- Essay must be written during the Spring 2012 or Fall 2012 semesters

The winning essay will display
- a clear, concise, and compelling controlling idea
- effective development of its argument through appropriate use of evidence
- detailed supporting analysis of that evidence
- grammatical and stylistic correctness
Requirements for submission:
First Round:
- submit at any time during the fall semester through Dec. 16, 2012
- visit the Writing Center at least one time to work on the essay
- include a copy of the assignment
- include the graded essay
Submit your essay as an email attachment to writingcenter@fandm.edu. Printed support materials can be submitted to the Writing Center main office, Diagnothian Hall 200.
Early in the spring semester, the Center will notify finalists for the prize. Those writers will be given the opportunity to further refine their essays. The deadline for final submission is Friday, March 8, 2013.
