Additional Course Information
Chemistry Major/Minor Requirements
A Major in Chemistry consists of a minimum of 15 credits including at least 10 credits in chemistry. Required are:
Chemistry 111, 112, 211, 212, 221, 222, 321
Physics 111, 112; Mathematics 109, 110
Traditional Major in Chemistry - may be completed with the following course requirements:
Chemistry 322
One credit in Chemistry numbered 410-439
Two additional credits in Chemistry, or one additional credit in Chemistry and one credit outside Chemistry approved by the department. Approved courses include Biology 240, 305; Earth and Environment 321; Mathematics 111; Physics 222, 223.
Biochemistry Degree Option - A Biochemistry degree option in the Chemistry major modeled after the requirements of the American Chemical Society may be completed with the following course requirements:
Chemistry 331 and 432
Biology 230
One credit of 390 or 490
One additional credit of Chemistry or one credit outside Chemistry approved by the department. Approved courses include: Biology 240, 305; Earth and Environment 321; Mathematics 111; Physics 222, 223.
A full year of Chemistry 390 or 490 is encouraged but no more than one such credit may be applied toward the requirements for the major.
A Minor in Chemistry requires CHM 111, 112 plus four additional chemistry credits.
The writing requirement in Chemistry is met by completion of the normal courses required for the major.
