Spring Option

Some students applying to F&M are offered our Spring Option. These students are selected from the usual applicant pool and offered admission for Spring at the same time as other students are notified. The Spring Option was first initiated to fill vacancies produced by students studying abroad, but it has become an option with considerable advantages of its own. The Spring Option is ideal for the independent student who wishes to take a short break between high school and college, but who also desires to use the time productively to pursue an individualized and challenging program in consultation with an experienced faculty advisor at F&M.

F&M suggested options for the "Gap Fall" include studying abroad through NYU in Florence with the Franklin & Marshall College Freshmen Program  (please bear in mind that students traveling abroad should be 18 years old by August); participating in an organized overseas volunteer program; or undertaking a challenging outdoor program such as Outward Bound. Students might also elect to take classes at a local college or university. Any credit-bearing experience is subject to F&M approval. Students admitted for January admission come to F&M with more than the usual experience to contribute to the F&M community.

Although some students applying to F&M might specifically select Spring admission, F&M cannot guarantee admission for a specific semester at this point. For more information on our Spring Option, please contact Dr. Kabi Hartman at kabi.hartman@fandm.edu or visit the Spring Option Frequently Asked Questions page.
