Advising
Resource Library
Our library of program materials is available to any student, at any time. Come, browse, read through program books and evaluations, and take things home to share. The library is on the main floor of the Joseph International Center.
Individual Student Advising
After attending Starting Points, each student is required to have at least one 30-minute advising appointment in the Office of International Programs. To schedule an appointment, call 717-358-7187 or stop by the main office in the Joseph International Center.
The goal of the advising staff is to provide individualized assistance to students in identifying an off-campus program of study. We consider three elements of the student's experience when providing advice on program choice:
Academic/Long-Range Career Goals
Cultural Learning Opportunities
Personal Identity Development
The purpose of the advising staff is to facilitate your decision-making process. The choice of program is yours to make; we are here to give advice and ask questions to help you define your goals. Once you are ready to apply to a program, come to the Office of International Programs for help with application procedures, course transfer questions, or travel advice. See us as often as you need to.
Walk-In Advising
Each of the advisers for off-campus study has walk-in advising hours.
Dean Marion Coleman: Tuesday, Thursday 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Dean Nicole Zeimis: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Dean Patti Brown: Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 4:30 - 5:30 p.m.
Stop by if you have already begun the process of applying to a program and have a question that can be answered outside of an advising appointment. Students who are using the resource library and have questions about the materials are also welcome during this time. Walk-in advising does not replace the mandatory appointment with your off-campus study adviser.
Off-Campus Study Ambassadors & Returnees
The Off-Campus Study Ambassadors and other returned students can be resources in your research as well. These returned students hold office hours and organize informational programs to promote off-campus study, and are excited to share about their experiences abroad. Visit the Ambassadors page to find out more.
There are many students on campus who have had an off-campus study experience and are willing to share with you. Whether you are interested in a particular academic area, program, or geographical region of the world, your off-campus study adviser can put you in touch with students who have similar interests and have studied off-campus.
