2009 Alumni Medal Award Recipient
Alan R. Ingraham '72
Alan Ingraham's great passion in life is his alma mater. He is a dedicated alumnus who is always willing to assist Franklin & Marshall by mentoring students, chairing athletic leadership committees, promoting F&M to perspective students and financially supporting the College.Al graduated from Franklin & Marshall in 1972, majoring in business administration and history. It did not take long for Al to learn the role of an active alumnus. He quickly became involved in the Baltimore Regional Chapter where today, 35 years later, he still participates in organizing chapter events. When students are in need Al is available to lend a kind, but firm hand. He has mentored student athletes as well as fellow Chi Phi brothers. Al is driven to help others. It is not surprising that professionally Al has served as a leader in the Maryland Association of Realtors.
Al's love of Diplomat athletics derives from his college days when he was a member of the varsity basketball team and co-captain of the varsity soccer team. Attend a football, basketball or lacrosse game and you can expect to see Al, having traveled from his home in Baltimore, cheering on his beloved Diplomats. In 2008, Al was appointed Chairman of the Diplomat Athletic Club Advisory Council by President John Fry.
Al has supported the work of the F&M Fund by hosting numerous Baltimore regional phonathons at his offices. He encourages other alumni to participate and sets the tone of the evening by challenging the Baltimore callers to raise more dollars than the neighboring Washington D.C. phonathon.
In addition to giving his time, Al is quick to lend his financial assistance to various projects including the Ken Gramas Pavilion, the Tylus Field, the Franklin & Marshall Annual Fund, the F&M Assistant Football Coach Fund, renovations at the Chi Phi fraternity house, the locker room renovations, F&M men's soccer, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee and the Diplomat Athletic Club.
The Alumni Medal is presented annually to an alumna or alumnus in recognition of sustained, distinguished and outstanding service to the College. Alan Ingraham, in recognition of your extraordinary service and generosity on behalf of this College, we are proud to bestow upon you the 2009 Franklin & Marshall College Alumni Medal.
