Departmental Awards
Peter and Irene Seadle Award
The Seadle Award supports a special project or internship in a
German-speaking country. Winners, selected by the Department of German and
Russian, must be non-native speakers of German completing their junior
year, demonstrate a serious interest in German language and culture, and
have successfully taken courses through the German 202 level.
Sophomore Summer Travel Award
Each summer a sophomore from the Department of German and Russian who has declared a major in German or a minor in Russian can compete for a grant to support summer study and travel in a German- or Russian-speaking country. Students may use this award to enroll in a course in the country or to engage in an independent research project.
M. Joseph Buehrle Prize
The award was founded in 1910 by R. K. Buehrle, Ph.D., former superintendent of the public schools of Lancaster. This award is presented to the member of the senior class who passes the most satisfactory examination in the German language.
