Awards & Events
The English Department is happy to sponsor the annual Hausman Lecture, which brings an award-winning author to read on campus each fall, and the Emerging Writers Festival, which is a three day festival each spring hosting five first-book authors on the cusp of coming into wide national readership. These events are generously funded by Richard and Edna Hausman.
The English Department recognizes excellence in student writing, both creative and critical, with a number of awards. These include:
- The Jerome Irving Bank Short Story Prize
- The Elisabeth Doreen Shaw Russell Award in Creative Non-Fiction
- The Hensel Prize
- The Academy of American Poetry Poetry Prize
- The Drum British Isles Summer Travel Award
