This year, the Spanish department will host a variety of events and activities, including lectures by guest speakers, movie screenings, our second annual Latin American Film Festival, the weekly Café español, and other exciting opportunities for majors, minors, as well as anybody interested in the Spanish-speaking cultures.

  • Latin American Film Festival

Our annual Latin American & Spanish Film Festival is here!  Join us every Friday at 5:00pm, starting January 31 through February 28, in Stahr Auditorium, Stager Hall.  We will be showing five magnificent films about Spain, Mexico, Cuba and Argentina.  So, don't miss the opportunity to see some of the best recent films in the Spanish language (with English subtitles)!  We hope to see you all there!

The Spanish department now has its own Summer Abroad program in Monteverde, Costa Rica!!!  Please, come to learn about this amazing opportunity this Thursday, November 14, at 6:00pm at Joseph International Center.  There will be pizza!

How often can you get "3 IN 1?"  With the Spanish department, YOU CAN!  On Tuesday, October 1, at 5:30pm we will be meeting in the beautiful Ware Great Room for an event commemorating the 1973 Chile's Military Coup.  We will have:

  1. A brief presentation by Professor Stephanie McNulty from the Government Department: "Saying 'No' to the Dictator: Chile's Transition to Democracy."
  2. The 2012 Chilean film No about the end of Augusto Pinochet's regimen (nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar and featuring today's hottest Mexican start Gael García Bernal).
  3. LOTS OF FOOD!

On Thursday, October 24, Dr. Gloria Arjona (California Institute of Technology) will give a live music and multimedia presentation in English on Mexican music, history, and culture.

Come to Bonchek Commons at 6:30pm for a very interesting talk and some food!  Everybody is welcome!
