Kara, left, and Leslie Bacile
When the time comes to choose a college, some twins can’t wait to get away from each other. But for Kara and Leslie Bacile, college was something they wanted to experience together.
Since enrolling at Franklin & Marshall, the sisters have
added impressive entries to the list of achievements they’ve accomplished side by side. They’ve explored diverse avenues for growth at F&M, gaining leadership skills and insight into their career trajectories. Behind the scenes, Franklin & Marshall Fund donors have had a hand in their many successes, from the boost they give to unique College House programming to support for the Diplomat Athletic Club (DAC).
This past fall, the seniors were both named captains of the women’s basketball team—the culmination of years spent playing on the same squad. Their initiative also extends beyond the court.
The government majors are both Ware College House advisers who mentor first-year students. Leslie is co-president and Kara
is vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), a group of 100-plus leaders in the F&M student- athlete community. As co-president, Leslie represents SAAC at Diplomatic Congress, the student government body that unites all student groups. And they both make the dean’s list every semester.
The Baciles both credit their co-curricular accomplishments with growing their leadership skills—and for stretching their
comfort zones in ways that strengthen their confidence. Their co-curriculars also inform their career aspirations.
After graduation, Leslie plans to pursue a Master’s in Education before teaching social studies and coaching basketball. “My service through SAAC and being an HA reflect my desire to give back, which is what has drawn me to want to teach and coach,” said Leslie.
Similarly, Kara’s involvement in the athletic department and other groups on campus has taught her that she wants to work with student athletes. “I want to help others grow and gain the leadership skills that I have been lucky enough to gain at F&M,” she said.
