Life at F&M

The Four Pillars
of the F&M Experience

  • Franklin & Marshall students view various old Bibles and religious texts on display in the archives of Martin Library of the Sciences during their Cultural History of American Religion class with Professor Catherine Osborne. Here they look at Pennsylvania German broadsides, which were used as posters to put on display many years ago.

Franklin & Marshall is known for its academic excellence. Our hands-on approach to education emphasizes learning while doing. We blend traditional academic work with instructor-designed, out-of-class learning — in labs, in studios, on stages, in the community, in the field, and in countries around the world.

  • I convinced my friends that we should take the 3 hour bus ride to Ein Gedi, the natural springs in Israel. This picture is taken on the top of the mountain we hiked and the land on the other side of the water is Jordan. That night we slept in tents next to the dead sea and had a camp fire. This was my abroad family and this picture is from my favorite day.

At F&M, you'll discover an individualized experience that encourages self-expression and unleashes potential. About 2/3 of our students do an independent study or conduct research under the guidance of a faculty member, and more than half of our students take part in one of our 200 study-abroad programs in 60 countries.

  • Students participate in the Indian spring festival of Holi on the residential quad.

We offer a supportive community where students find "homes" in activities that help them flourish. Outside the classroom, there is no limit to student activities. In addition to 27 athletic teams, 18 club sports and 145 student-run clubs, our students frequently create new organizations that motivate their interests.

Springsteen visited F&M to speak at a dinner sponsored by Life After College Success, a program that helps F&M students define, develop and achieve their post-college goals. F&M's newly launched Office of Student & Post-Graduate Development will continue to offer this program among a broad range of services to help students explore potential career pathways and prepare them to compete for opportunities they seek. We are a national leader in launching students to top graduate schools, fellowship programs and careers in every field. In fact, within six months of graduating, 98 percent of the Class of 2016 was either employed or pursuing further education. We pledge to support our  students long after they graduate.
