Nice work! You earned it. We can't wait to learn about your many accomplishments as an F&M Diplomat. You will be part of a talented group of incoming transfer students, all of whom bring a variety of interests and talents to the campus community.

  • STEP #2: Review Your Transfer Course Credit Evaluation

STEP #2: Review Your Transfer Course Credit Evaluation Image

At F&M we want you to make an informed decision. If you have not already received your evaluation, the F&M Registrar's Office is in the process of preparing it, and we will contact you as soon as it is available. The course credit evaluation will inform you as to how many credits will transfer to F&M. It also tells you what F&M graduation requirements are satisfied by your previous coursework. This information sets the stage for your course selection and introductory session with an academic adviser.

In some cases the Registrar's Office may request additional information to complete the evaluation, such as a course syllabus.  We recommend submitting any requested information  as soon as possible.   If you have any questions about the course evaluation process, please inquire directly to transfer@fandm.edu

Official transfer credit is not finalized until F&M receives the final transcript for all completed college coursework. The final transcript must be mailed from the previous institution directly to the Franklin & Marshall Office of Admission.

To qualify for a Franklin & Marshall degree, transfer students must successfully complete at least 16 course credits at the campus, as well as meet all other graduation requirements.

  • STEP #3: Schedule A Campus Visit

Here is Why You Should Transfer To F&M

Making the decision to transfer schools is a big one.  It can be a little scary, but it can also be an exciting time. We want to make sure that your decision is an informed decision.  Here are a few reasons why current students said they chose to transfer to F&M.

"I really value the high academic standard that F&M successfully upholds."
Nick Henderson '17
"I chose to transfer to F&M because it gave me the ability to be in a rigorous academic environment, while being able to compete in the sport I love. It also allows me to take advantage of the small city of Lancaster."
Nick Salatino ' 18
"I chose to transfer to F&M because I wanted a small liberal art school still, but wanted a more urban environment. I was really intrigued by the the vibrant people and campus life. Lancaster city was also a big part of why I chose F&M. I remember hearing how I could get involved, how accommodating and energetic the surrounding area was."
Kate Lappin '17
"F&M students really care about their academics, and I found that I could compete at a high level of athletics without compromising my love for learning."
Katie Schick '18
"I got a immediate sense of community. I have never been welcomed into a place like I was welcomed at F&M. This is the warmest, friendliest, and most comfortable community and I instantly knew this was the place I was looking for."
Stephanie Schick '18

Preparing for Your Arrival

  • F&M students lead a campus tour for visitors. Pictured is a dorm room in Weis College House

For incoming fall transfer students, housing assignments are announced in early August. By late June, incoming transfer students will receive an email directing them to the online "New Student Housing Application" (This email will be sent to your new F&M email account ONLY, so be sure to check it regularly!).  Completion of this form is a springboard to receiving placement and matching you with an appropriate roommate.

All F&M students must reside within the College's Portfolio of Housing Options for the duration of study. This means that transfer students are guaranteed housing and you do not have to worry about scrambling for housing in Lancaster.

For transfer students, your room assignment will also determine your College House affiliation.  If you have any questions, visit the handy Housing FAQ. You can also feel free to contact Lori Foust, Director of Housing, if you have any questions or concerns.

 Academic Advising &  Course Selection

Receiving your Course Credit Evaluation is an important first step towards pairing you with a faculty adviser and selecting your courses. For admitted students, you can expect to receive your evaluation about a week after receiving your admission decision. Your Course Credit Evaluation will tell you how many credits you can expect to receive for your previous coursework. It also details what F&M graduation requirements have been fulfilled.

With this information in hand, we encourage you to  learn more about our course offerings and major requirements by visiting the F&M Catalog. Your course credit evaluation will also be used to match you with a Faculty Academic Advisor.

Matching you with a faculty advisor will typically occur a few weeks after we receive your enrollment agreement. The first step will be to schedule a phone or in-person conversation with your academic advisor. Incoming fall transfer students will have the opportunity to choose most of their course prior to Orientation. A final add/drop session will also be available at Orientation. Once you formally declare a major as a student at F&M, you will be paired with an academic advisor within that department.

Please note: Transfer students entering in the fall will not be formally registered for classes until we have received all final transcripts from the transfer institution(s).
