This summer (2016), Franklin & Marshall College is excited to host a 7-week, non-residential Arabic Summer Language Program that is open to local college and high school students who have had little-to-no exposure to Arabic. Our program focuses on the theme, “Egypt: Mother of the World,” and affords students the opportunity to build proficiency in two key areas: Egyptian Dialect, the most widely understood dialect of the Arab world, and Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), or formal Arabic, the language of Arabic news media and literature. Our summer program offers students an immersive, communicative environment that features field trips, guest speakers, cooking classes and plenty of interaction of with native speakers of Arabic. Students who complete our 7-week Arabic Summer course in 2016 will receive the credit equivalent of Arabic 101 (regularly offered in the Fall) and will have the added advantage of seamlessly transitioning to Arabic 102 at F&M in the Spring of 2017 by opting to take a ½ credit Arabic Language course in the Fall at no additional cost. The Arabic Summer Program will run from June 28th 2016 to August 11th 2016. The class will meet four times a week for 3.5 hours per day on the F&M campus.  As this is a Startalk-funded program, partial tuition scholarships will be available to participants. For more information, contact the Director of the Arabic Program, Christine N. Kalleeny at Arabic@fandm.edu.
