9 to 5: The Musical
Directed by Kendall Lipham '23
9 to 5 (written by Patricia Resnick with music and lyrics by Dolly Parton) centers on the downtrodden working lives of three women: Violet, Judy, and Doralee. They all work at Consolidated Industries, which is presided over by the sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot that we all know and love, Franklin Hart. After 1) Judy has a discouraging first few days 2) Hart gives Violet's promotion to someone else and 3) Doralee finds out that Hart has been telling everyone they are having an affair, the three women unite in their hatred of Hart. Over a joint, they fantasize about how they would make him pay. Throughout the course of the show, all their fantasies come true when our heroines decide to imprison Mr. Hart. While he's gone, Violet, Judy, and Doralee run the office and discover that sometimes you have to ruffle some (or a lot of) feathers to get the recognition you deserve.
