High-Quality Health Care
Responding to growing interest among students for more comprehensive health and counseling services, in spring 2014 Franklin & Marshall College launched a new initiative seeking ways to enhance the future operation of F&M's student health program by tapping the resources of the regional medical community. What followed was a yearlong process during which a campus advisory committee comprised of students, faculty and professional staff reviewed proposals from several area health care organizations outlining models to deliver high-quality health, counseling, wellness and sports medicine services to F&M students in partnership with the College.
In February 2015, F&M and Lancaster General Health (LG Health) announced an agreement to cooperatively establish a new outpatient health and counseling center in College Square, replacing Appel Infirmary, which had served the campus for more than 50 years. The new 9,200-square-foot Student Wellness Center provides on-campus medical staff with a state-of-the-art facility including specific triage, exam and treatment areas, individual rooms for counseling, an on-site laboratory to make medical screening more convenient, and a community space for a variety of programs, from group counseling to classes on athletics training, nutrition, yoga, mindfulness and more. The Overview video below describes in greater detail the College's partnership with LG Health and the services offered through the new Wellness Center.
